Privacy policy

Who we are

soundParty (“we”, “us”) is the developer of the soundParty mobile app and is the controller of the limited personal data described here. You can reach us at support@snapconvert.app.

What stays on your phone

The app works with the following on your device. None of it is sent to us.

• Your music and videos. With your permission the app reads the audio and video files in your media library so it can list and play them. Access is read-only. The app doesn’t upload your library anywhere.
• Bluetooth audio devices. The app reads the names and connection state of the audio devices your phone is paired with, and whether your phone supports features such as LE Audio broadcast, so it can show your speakers and suggest a setup. It doesn’t scan for nearby devices and doesn’t use Bluetooth to work out where you are.
• Settings and history. Your playlists, queue, recently played items, display name for parties, sync trim, onboarding state and which features you have unlocked are stored in the app’s private storage on your phone.
• Saved tracks. If a party host allows it and you choose to save a track, the file is stored in the app’s storage and offered to your phone’s media library.

Party sessions

A party runs directly between phones on the same Wi-Fi network or hotspot. There is no soundParty server in between, so we never receive any of the following.

• The display name you choose is shown to the other people at that party.
• The host’s local network address is contained in the join code and QR code so guests’ phones can find it. Phones at a party can see each other’s local network addresses, as any devices on one network can.
• The track the host plays, its title and its cover art are streamed from the host’s phone to guests for the length of the party.
• Chat messages, if the host has chat switched on, are relayed by the host’s phone to the people at that party. They are held in memory and disappear when the party ends.
• Each guest phone reports its timing gap to the host so the room can show who is in step.

Party traffic travels over your local network without encryption. Host and join parties only on networks you trust, such as your home Wi-Fi or your own hotspot.

What goes to other companies

Advertising — Google AdMob

soundParty shows banner, app-open and rewarded ads through Google AdMob. To serve and measure ads, Google’s advertising SDK in the app collects and sends to Google:

• your device’s advertising ID and similar app identifiers;
• your IP address, which Google may use to estimate your general location (country or city, not your precise position);
• device information such as model, operating system version and language;
• how you interact with ads and basic app-performance diagnostics.

Where the law requires it (for example in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland), the app asks for your consent through Google’s consent screen before any ad is requested, and shows non-personalised ads if you decline. You can change your choice at any time under Settings → Privacy → Ad privacy choices in the app. On any Android phone you can also reset or delete your advertising ID in Settings → Google → Ads.

YouTube

The YouTube section of the app uses YouTube API Services. By using it you agree to the YouTube Terms of Service, and Google handles your data under the Google Privacy Policy.

• When you search, the words you type are sent to a small relay we run on Cloudflare Workers, which passes them to the YouTube Data API and returns the results. The relay exists to keep our API key out of the app. It doesn’t store who searched for what. Results for a given search phrase may be cached for up to an hour so repeated searches are faster; the cache isn’t linked to any person or device. Cloudflare processes your IP address in passing, as any web host does.
• Videos play in YouTube’s official embedded player. When it loads, Google receives your IP address and may set cookies or use identifiers in that player, exactly as it would on a web page with an embedded video.
• soundParty doesn’t ask you to sign in to Google and never accesses your YouTube account, history or subscriptions. It doesn’t download or store YouTube video or audio.

Google Play

If you rate the app from inside it, the rating sheet is provided by Google Play and your review goes to Google, not to us.

Permissions

The app doesn’t request location, microphone, contacts, phone or SMS permissions. Location and microphone permissions are explicitly removed from the build.

What we don’t collect

We don’t run an analytics or crash-reporting service of our own, we don’t have user accounts, and we don’t receive your name, email address, phone number, contacts, precise location, media library or party chats. We don’t sell personal information. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write, and use it only to reply.

Children

soundParty is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country, where that is higher), and we don’t knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided personal data through the app, contact us and we will help.

Keeping and deleting data

Data on your phone stays until you delete it. Clearing the app’s storage or uninstalling the app removes all of it. Party data disappears when the party ends. We hold nothing on servers, so there is nothing for us to erase on your behalf; emails you send us are deleted within 12 months of our last reply. Advertising data is held by Google under its retention policies. Step-by-step instructions are on the data deletion page.

Security

Traffic to Google and to our YouTube relay is encrypted in transit with HTTPS. Data on your phone is kept in the app’s private storage, protected by Android’s app sandbox. Party traffic on your local network is not encrypted, as described above. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR, UK GDPR or California’s CCPA/CPRA), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal data, to object to or restrict its processing, to withdraw consent, and to complain to your data protection authority. Because we hold no data about app users on our own systems, most requests are answered by the controls described in this policy: the in-app ad choices, your phone’s advertising ID settings, and clearing the app’s storage. For anything else, email us and we will respond within 30 days.

Where the GDPR applies, the legal bases are your consent (personalised advertising, camera and media access) and our legitimate interests in providing and funding the app (non-personalised ads, basic operation). Google and Cloudflare may process data in the United States and other countries under their own transfer safeguards.

This website

This website sets no cookies and has no analytics. It loads fonts from Google Fonts, so Google receives your IP address when the page loads. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs for security.

Changes to this policy

If the app starts handling data differently, we will update this page and the date at the top before the change ships. Material changes will also be noted in the app’s release notes.
